i guess i had a hard time believing the author. How did you like the book? were you convinved?
A I believe Iwasaki Mineko’s autobiography to be very honest, and truly extraordinary. It takes us from her childhood to her adulthood. I enjoyed it very much, and prefer it to Arthur Golden’s Memoirs of a Geisha. I really hope that people will read this, as it is more accurate and truthful than Memoirs. So yes, I am convinced the Iwasaki-san was telling the truth.
so you actually believe that she played on the basketball team, and that she made an a decision on her own to leave home at 3 yrs old rather than being sold to an okiya, and you believe that everyone was always so nice and sweet to someone as prideful and arrogant as she was, even as a child
Obviously the book Geisha: A Life is available at Amazon, but you could also visit Barnes & Noble (barnesandnoble.com) and easily enough find it there, too. Alibris, too (alibris.com and alibris.co.uk). Canadians can check out Indigo Books & Music (chapters.indigo.ca).

“Dirty Mind” Memoirs of a Geisha
Uploaded by Arneneithel on 6 Mar 2007
Some men, such as the Baron, Dr. Crab, or even Nobu, are only ever thinking about one thing when they’re with Geisha – their Mizuage, or becoming their Danna. Sayuri hates this, and tries to reach out for the one man who is different; but has the cruelty crushed her spirit?
OK I’ll admit right now this is not my best work. The main problems are the decreasing suitability of the music as it goes on, and the massive impurity of the speech clips. But this is my first time using speech, so please forgive me. =]
This is basically only here because someone asked for it; but I would greatly appreciate comments, and expecially comments on how it could be improved because this really pissed me off when I looked back at the “fruits” of my hours of work.
Music: Dirty Mind by Jeff Beck.
ps. i am aware that the reality of geisha life is very different from both the book, the film, and by extension this video’s portrayal of it. this is only an artistic work and not meant as a true comment on geisha or their clients. for a book about the real life of a geisha, i recommend “geisha of gion” by mineko iwasaki.
Geisha, A Life
No woman in the three-hundred-year history of the karyukai has ever come forward in public to tell her story—until now.”Many say I was the best geisha of my generation,” writes Mineko Iwasaki. “And yet, it was a life that I found too constricting to continue. And one that I ultimately had to leave.” Trained to become a geisha from the age of five, Iwasaki would live among the other “women of art…
