The Geisha Lounge in Oakland, California, evidently generated a huge amount of what I would deem to be unexpected controversy — witness this entry on the website of APAP (Asian Pacific Americans for Progress) from October 7, 2009, titled Racist and Sexist “Geisha” Bar Gets Permit to Operate in Oakland Chinatown.
The blog angry asian man joined in the outburst the following day.
Another blog commenting that same day was 8asians — the entry was posted by one of the blog’s ‘co-editors,’ who happens to identify herself as “a Japanese-American girl.” A voice of sanity in this one!
At any rate, the Geisha Lounge is doing well, as this review (by a woman) from December 1, 2010, indicates: Night Owl: Geisha very red and very open despite fury over name.
This is a story about what to do on a date.
Film by Jennifer Gigantino and Natasia Schibinger, starring Kristina Robertson. Winner of the 2009 Viscera Award.
